ISLAMABAD: Left-handed batter Saud Shakeel, who is opening the batting for Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine, has opened to changes he made to play at the top of the order.
The 28-year-old has played five innings and has scored runs at a strike rate of 150.45. While talking to Geo News, the 29-year-old shed light on different topics around his game.
"I used to enjoy hitting shots on the ground, but I've adapted my game for T20 cricket," Saud said.
Meanwhile, Saud revealed he was told two days before that he would open the batting for Quetta in this PSL.
"It has been a good start. My individual performances have been impressive, and a new role as an opener has been assigned. Played first-class cricket at number three, but now I represent Pakistan at number five.
"Initially thought of playing at number three, but now, I play at number five with a mindset to embrace the challenge whenever an opportunity arises," he added.
On the other hand, Saud reflected that he would embrace the challenge of becoming captain if the opportunity came.
"Being a captain is a challenge and it's an opportunity to learn. Handling the pressure of being a captain falls on the player himself and I have always enjoyed captaincy. When I became the captain of the U19 team, I maintained a good atmosphere in the dressing room and had good camaraderie.
"Becoming a captain is a matter of pride. It's not that I always wanted to become a captain, but if the opportunity arises, I will definitely accept it," he added.
